JOB TITLE: Senior Mining & Costing Engineer
LOCATION:North Bay, Ontario
DEPARTMENT:Engineering
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
The Senior Mining Engineer & Estimator works closely with the General Manager of Engineering to respond to Client needs and provide ongoing support to Operations personnel for contracting projects.
Engineering Duties:
- Complete pre-feasibility and feasibility studies, detailed design engineering and provide input on proposals/bids;
- Perform Engineering project management responsibilities; including weekly reporting, design change notice management, and capital estimate management;
- Provide onsite engineering supervision of underground mine facilities construction, including shaft sinking.
Estimating Duties:
- Analyze drawings, designs, specifications, and tender documentation in order to prepare schedules, cost estimates and bid documents;
- Determine performance capabilities with detailed cycle time calculations and adjust theoretical calculations to reflect historical performance achieved;
- Prepare all tenders in accordance with the “Bidding Process”;
- Travel for site visits/inspections, working in branch or joint venture partner offices. Travel may include international assignments and range from one day to several weeks in duration;
- Make presentations to owners and clients on proposals and feasibility studies completed for submission;
- Conduct risk reviews and checking duties in a manner that is responsive to corporate needs in an effort to ensure accuracy.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Mining degree from a recognized university. Candidates with a diploma from a recognized college will also be considered in a more technical role.
Experience: Must have a minimum of 10-15 years underground mining industry experience with a significant portion of time spent in the role of estimator, scheduler, contracts administrator and/or feasibility engineer. Time spent underground as a supervisor and miner in construction, development and production would be desirable.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES:
Must be a self starter with the ability to handle change and work with minimal supervision. Must have knowledge of mining, mine plant construction and shaft sinking methodologies. Excellent negotiation skills coupled with strong written and verbal communication skills is a must.
